China’s Pea Imports Surge in 2025

The General Administration of Customs of China has published its official import statistics for December 2025. According to the data, China imported approximately 200 thousand metric tonnes (KMT) of peas during the month.

For the full year of 2025, China’s cumulative pea imports from January through December reached 1.91 million metric tonnes (MMT). This represents a significant increase compared with total imports of 1.39 MMT recorded in 2024, highlighting strong year-on-year growth in demand. Russia emerged as China’s largest supplier of peas in 2025, accounting for around 60% of total imports, while Canada ranked second with a 28% share.

In terms of regional distribution within China, Shandong province was the leading destination for imported peas in 2025, receiving 752 KMT, which marked a 38% increase compared with the previous year. Jiangsu province ranked second, with imports totalling 300 KMT, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 34%. Fujian province followed closely behind, importing 212 KMT of peas, a sharp increase of 76% compared with 2024.
