Kazakhstan has firmly established itself as a key player in the lentil production and export market, achieving impressive milestones in the Marketing Year (MY) 2024/25. The nation recorded a historic high of 456 thousand metric tonnes (KMT) in lentil production, a striking increase from the 193 thousand metric tonnes produced in 2023/24.
In addition to its remarkable production achievements, Kazakhstan also set a new record for pulse exports in MY 2024/25. From July to January, lentil exports skyrocketed to 227 KMT, representing an 87% increase compared to the same period in the previous marketing year, and a 52% rise relative to the total exports for the prior marketing year. Turkey emerged as the leading destination for Kazakh lentils, accounting for 55% of the total exports, while the EU-27 bloc comprised 31% of the market share.
Given these successes in the 2024/25 season, it is anticipated that Kazakh farmers will continue to expand their lentil and pulse cultivation in the upcoming 2025/26 period.
