Record Pulse Output in Kazakhstan: Lentil Production Soars 70% in MY 2025-26

Kazakhstan is recognized as one of the major global players in the production and export of pulses, with a particularly strong position in lentil cultivation and international trade. Recently, the Statistics of Kazakhstan released its latest crop production data for the marketing year (MY) 2025/26, revealing exceptionally strong performance across the pulse sector. According to the report, Kazakhstan has achieved the highest pulse production level in its history during MY 2025/26.

Total pulse output in the country reached approximately 998 thousand metric tonnes (KMT), representing a significant increase of 56% compared to the previous marketing year. Lentils account for the dominant share of this production, contributing close to 80% of Kazakhstan’s total pulse output in MY 2025/26, which further underscores the country’s growing specialization in lentil production.

In addition, Kazakhstan recorded a new all-time high in lentil production during MY 2025/26, with output rising by around 70% compared to MY 2024/25. This remarkable growth was largely driven by a substantial expansion in harvested area. Lentil harvested area increased to 643 thousand hectares (KHa) in MY 2025/26, nearly doubling from approximately 351 KHa in the previous marketing year. This sharp increase in acreage highlights strong farmer confidence and growing investment in lentil cultivation across the country.
