The Grain Industry Association of WA (GIWA) has revised its wheat production estimate

The Grain Industry Association of WA (GIWA) has revised its wheat production estimate for Western Australia in December, increasing it by 41% to 10,850 KMT, up from 7,650 KMT in 2023-24. The largest increase is for Geraldton, with production estimates rising from 1,150 KMT to 2,790 KMT. This growth is attributed to favorable growing conditions, including timely rainfall, minimal waterlogging, mild winter temperatures, and low disease and weed competition, which have reduced stress on crops.

The Production estimates for Kwinana and Esperance have also increased by 38% and 12%, respectively. However, certain areas in these districts have still experienced waterlogging, which has affected crop growth in some regions.

Compared to its November estimates, the organization has increased the wheat production estimate by 495 KMT in its recent report.
