Argentine Pea Production Reaches All-Time High in MY 2025/26

Argentine recorded a record dry pea harvest in the 2025/26 marketing year (MY), highlighting the country's expanding role in the global pulse market. Although Argentine remains a relatively small producer compared with leading exporters such as Canada and Russia, its dry pea industry has grown rapidly in recent years. Strong international demand, improved agronomic practices, and favourable growing conditions have encouraged farmers to expand pea cultivation as part of diversified crop rotations.

Dry peas are mainly produced in the provinces of Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Santa Fe, and Entre Ríos, where suitable climatic conditions support consistent yields.

According to Argentine's Ministry of Agriculture, dry pea production in MY 2025/26 increased by approximately 49% compared with the previous marketing year, marking the highest production on record. The sharp increase was driven by a combination of higher planted area and favourable weather throughout the growing season, which resulted in improved yields.

Seeded acreage expanded by about 32% from MY 2024/25 as growers responded to stronger export opportunities and favourable market returns. The larger harvest is expected to strengthen Argentine's exportable supplies and enhance its competitiveness in international pulse markets. While still a modest player globally, Argentine's expanding production underscores its growing importance as an emerging supplier of dry peas in South America.
