Pulse production in Ukraine has been steadily expanding for many years, and the country has firmly established itself as one of the world’s leading producers and exporters of peas.
This year, peas have emerged as the standout crop in Ukraine. According to the most recent report from Ukraine’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy, farmers have harvested an impressive 673 thousand metric tonnes (KMT) of peas — setting a new record in production. The crop was grown on approximately 275 thousand hectares of land. While domestic use of peas remains relatively limited, the vast majority of Ukraine’s output is directed toward foreign markets.
Turkey, India, and Italy were the main buyers of Ukrainian peas during the 2024–25 season. They made up a large part of the country's total exports.
The recent opening of the Chinese market to Ukrainian pea shipments is also likely to affect Ukraine's growing production. This has created new opportunities and helped output rise.
