Canadian farmers reported more production of grains in 2022 compared with 2021.
Wheat production rose by 52% to 33.82 MMT in 2022 from the previous year. Wheat production was highest in 2013, the second-highest production in 2020, and 2022 is the third-highest record production. Yields are up by 38% to 3.35 metric tons per hectare and the harvested areas are up by 10% to 10.08 million hectares.
In 2022 with better growing conditions relative to 2021, western Canada contributed the improved yields. Saskatchewan increased by 47% to 2.78 metric tons per hectare, resulting in a 67% increase in wheat production to 14.8 MMT.
