The Department of Primary Industries and Regions has recently revised its production estimates, highlighting poor crop performance across several regions in South Australia. Both pulses and wheat have experienced a significant decline in production.
Unfavorable climatic conditions have led to a 55% and 68% decrease in pea and chickpea production, respectively, reaching 33.86 KMT and 10.68 KMT. While this trend is not unprecedented, the situation is particularly concerning this year. Conversely, lentil production has increased by 26% as there is 168,400 Ha increase in acerage.
Wheat production is expected to be 2038 KMT lower than last year, driven by reduced rainfall and frost damage.
