Rabi Crop Planting Completed in India for 2022-23

India has completed Rabi crop planting for 2022-23, with 72.07 million hectares covered, marking a 2.83% increase from last year and 13.71% of the normal area. Rabi pulses crop has covered 16.79 million hectares, with a slight decrease of 0.04 million hectares from the previous year. Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Bihar have reported a higher area, while Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh have reported less area. Lentil, Moong bean, Kulthi, Lathyus, and other pulses have shown an increase in area coverage, while Chickpeas, Field peas, and Black matpe have shown less coverage.

This year, chickpeas were planted on 11.20 Mha of land, which is lower than the previous year's 11.50 Mha. Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh reported a higher area coverage for chickpeas.

The acreage of field peas this year is down by less than 5% compared to last year.

Chickpeas were planted less and lentils were planted more this year due to chickpeas prices below MSP and lentils prices above MSP for the whole year 2022.
