
India's Department of Commerce has released the official customs export data for December 2025. According to the report, India recorded its second-highest chickpea export volume on record during the period from January to December 2025.
The total quantity of chickpeas exported during the 2025 calendar year reached 388 thousand metric tonnes (KMT), representing a substantial increase compared to 247 KMT exported in 2024. This marks a year-on-year growth of more than 57%.
Among the different varieties, Kabuli chickpeas accounted for the largest share of total exports in 2025, contributing 51% of overall shipments. Desi chickpeas followed with a 33% share, while other chickpea varieties made up the remaining portion.
Kabuli chickpea exports between January and December 2025 totalled 198 KMT, a significant rise from 109 KMT exported in 2024. The United Arab Emirates emerged as the leading destination, during the year. Algeria ranked as the second-largest buyer, followed by China.
Desi chickpea exports reached 128 KMT in 2025, compared to 94 KMT in the previous year, reflecting steady growth. Exports of other chickpea varieties also increased, totalling 63 KMT in 2025, up from 45 KMT in 2024.
Overall, the data highlights strong growth in India's chickpea exports in 2025, driven primarily by rising shipments of Kabuli chickpeas and sustained demand from key international markets.
