China Record wheat import in Jan-Feb

In January and February, China achieved a new record for wheat imports, with a combined total of 2.99 million tons - an increase of 38% compared to the same period last year. This marks the largest quantity received during this time frame in recent years. During the first 8 months of the 2022-23 season, China imported 7.96 million tons of wheat, up from 6.55 million tons in the corresponding period last year.

Australia was the primary wheat partner for China, accounting for over 52% of the nation's wheat imports during the past two months. Meanwhile, France's wheat made up 26% of China's total wheat imports for January and February, and Canada delivered 519 KMT of wheat during the same period, making it the third-largest exporter to China.

Given the expected increase in China's domestic consumption of wheat in the coming years, it is anticipated that the country will import between 12 and 13 million tons of wheat during the 2022-23 season.
