On June 26, 2025, the European Commission released its fourth estimate for production and acreage in the 2025/26 marketing year (MY) for the EU-27. In this update, the Commission raised its field pea production forecast to 2 million metric tonnes (MMT), up from the previous estimate of 1.89 MMT. Despite the revision, the figure remains below last year’s output of 2.08 MMT. Most of the increase is attributed to Germany (up 90 thousand metric tonnes [KMT]) and Spain (up 20 KMT).
A closer look at the production outlook by member state reveals mixed trends. Germany’s field pea production is projected to rise 12% year-over-year to 421 KMT, while Romania is expected to post a 39% increase, reaching 159 KMT. On the other hand, several key producers are set to see declines. The Commission projects field pea output at 323 KMT for France, 246 KMT for Spain, 159 KMT for Lithuania, 83 KMT for Estonia, and 57 KMT for Latvia.
In contrast, market intelligence firm AgPulse forecasts a significantly higher total for the EU-27, estimating 2025/26 field pea production at 2.3 MMT. This more optimistic outlook likely reflects factors such as imposed import duties on Russian peas, stronger domestic demand, and improved export opportunities to markets like China and India.
